Air Conditioning - Aircon

The air conditioning which we often notice or which can be seen almost everywhere on this globe, are actually, the mechanical type of aircon units. Mechanical type of AC constitutes the maximum percentage in the total AC's around the world. They run on a specific mechanism or a cycle to cool the air. Often, people confuse with air conditioning and air conditioners which are two different terms. Air conditioning is a process which generally refers to alteration of temperature, air filtration, humidity, movement of air and its mixing. It defines the mechanism in which the air is processed or its existing condition is modified. While air conditioningis an equipment or device basically employed to control the excess humidity and surrounding temperature so as to make the air cool and atmosphere better. Or one can say that is the package containing everything which works on the principle of heat transfer.

Also known as air conditioning, these AC's are categorized in to different categories based on their working principle and type. Four type of aircon known till now include gas absorption AC, steam based AC, thermoelectric AC, and last the mechanical aircon. The foremost three types are commercially employed that is they are typically made for the use in industries only while the last one is used for residential purposes. Different AC's have different structures and shapes even as some may be huge in size while some may be quite compact. To start from the gas absorption air conditioning, it mainly uses the principle of vacuum where boiling of water is forced to take place at very low temperature generally below its boiling point. Therefore, water here is used as the prime refrigerant. After that, the water is then passed through the cooling oil for the purpose of cooling the air. One thing is very uncommon here in this case, that a recovery medium such as lithium bromide is needed for absorption purpose when water has finally passed through the cooling coils. Next, is the steam based air conditioning which is almost similar to the previous type of AC in terms of the mechanism and the use of refrigerant but has only one thing different. For reduction of the water pressure brute power of steam and Venturi are used together here. The concept of boiling applied in both the cases is that the water at low pressure will boil at low temperature according to the Fluid mechanics principle.

Third category is the Thermo-electric air conditioning, where the heating as well as cooling effects are obtained at a single point of time with the help of thermocouple principle. As the name suggests, this kind of AC uses both the electric power and the thermocouple. When the current or rather say electricity flows through the designed circuit one can notice the strange thing happening. Both the cold as well as hot regions are obtained. This air conditioning system also comes with a disadvantage that it is only powerful in cooling or heating a small area as it is not that much effective in the large rooms. Last but not the least, is the Mechanical AC which derives its name from the mechanism it follows. Continuous act of compression is required for the proper heating or cooling effect in this case which is done by mechanical process only. Special kind of refrigerants with low boiling temperature and optimum pressure such as CFC's, HCFC's and HFC's are used here amongst which CFC's (chlorofluoro carbon) are already banned due to their harmful nature. As far as its process is concerned, first the refrigerant with the help of compression is liquefied followed by refrigerant's condensation through heat exchange with the outside air. Then, the refrigerant evaporates from high to low pressure region with the help of an expansion device. This results in boiling of refrigerant at low temperature. Again, it is passé through the heat exchanger for completion of boiling process and this process is continued till the power is on. In this case, one needs to have proper supply of refrigerant for desired cooling effect and attaining more efficiency.

With buying an air conditioner, one also needs to take proper care of it. This device requires proper maintenance at regular time period as they work on mechanical process. One is required to check its functioning from time to time. If your air conditioning is consuming more power then it indicates there is some major/minor default in it which requires repayment through some technician. Therefore, if someone is experiencing this kind of problem then it should not be neglected as it is convenient to repair small damage before it turns big.
